The story behind the name
Why Chablis?
Chablis is the wine Josée and I love to share — for the big occasions and for ordinary evenings alike. When this villa became ours, its name chose itself. It says what we want to offer our guests: something bright, fresh and generous.
“When you arrive, a bottle of Chablis is waiting for you, chilled. It's the ritual of the house.”
Our emblem tells the rest: a hummingbird — the little bird of Guadeloupe's gardens, quick, weightless, never still — hovering at a fleur-de-lys. The lily can be read three ways: it appears on the flag of Guadeloupe, on the flag of Québec, where we come from, and on the coat of arms of the Chablis region, whose wine gave the villa its name. Between the three, the lagoon of Saint-François, which made us fall in love with the island.
Despite the name, the villa stands in Saint-François, Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies — some 4,300 miles from the vineyards of Chablis, between the golf course, the marina and the Caribbean Sea.
